You undoubtedly wish you could take your pet with you everywhere you go. But when your travel plans or accommodations don’t allow animals, you can bring your dog or cat to the Pet Resort at Germantown Vet Clinic. We’ll take good care of your pup or kitty with ample playtime, grooming, and experienced animal care.
Before you leave on your trip, make sure your pet is prepared for boarding by following these tips.
Make Your Appointment Early
During the summer when more people travel, it’s possible for our pet resort to become completely booked. Unfortunately, when this happens, we have no choice but to turn pets away. To make sure this doesn’t happen to you, call us as early as possible to book your pet’s stay at our clean, well-equipped boarding facility.
Get Your Pet Vaccinated
Since boarding facilities place animals in close proximity, the risk of spreading disease increases. If every dog and cat is vaccinated, they remain protected from communicable diseases. This requirement also protects the few animals that can’t be vaccinated for health reasons.
At Germantown Vet, we require every animal that stays with us to be up-to-date with the following vaccinations:
- Canine Influenza H3N8
- Recommended: Canine Influenza H3N2
- FELV/FIV test for indoor/outdoor cats
- FELV for indoor/outdoor cats
Depending on what vaccinations your pet needs, immunity may take a few days or even weeks to fully develop. For this reason, you should contact Germantown Vet as far in advance as possible to make sure everything is in order.
Start Flea & Tick Prevention
Pests are more likely to become a problem in places where animals congregate, including boarding facilities. While we keep our pet resort as clean as possible, you may want to start your pet on flea and tick prevention medication before it’s time to board the animal. This simple precaution gives you added peace of mind in the rare instance that your pet comes in contact with fleas and ticks while being boarded.
At Germantown Vet, our professional veterinary staff can help you select the right preventative treatment for your dog or cat. We’re here to help ensure your pet stays happy, healthy, and pest-free.
Pack Extra Pet Food & Medication
In the days before your trip, make sure you have plenty of pet food to drop off at our pet resort along with your dog or cat. The animal is likely to feel much less stressed in unique surroundings if you avoid any dietary changes at the same time. It’s also important to let staff members know about any unique feeding requirements your pet has. If your dog or cat takes medication, bring plenty of that as well.
