Our Veterinary Surgery Services
At Germantown Vet, we are proud to offer a state-of-the-art surgical suite complete with the latest in monitoring equipment, ensuring your pet’s surgery and anesthesia are always performed as safely as possible. Our facility’s full complement of monitoring equipment includes ECG, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, carbon dioxide levels, and body temperature.
Pre-Operation Exams
Your pet’s safety is our number one concern. For that reason, all patients undergo extensive pre-operative lab work to look for any abnormal blood counts or organ problems that could affect how they handle surgery. We also perform a preoperative physical examination the morning of surgery to make sure your dog or cat hasn’t developed any physical issues that could cause problems with anesthesia.
Post-Operation Care & Monitoring
We understand that this is a stressful time for you and your pet, and you can rest assured that your pet will never be left unattended. Our veterinary nurses stay with your dog or cat from the moment he undergoes anesthesia until he is fully awake. Once awake, patients remain in our ICU where we can keep a close eye on them until they go home. If your pet needs to stay overnight, our live-in veterinary nurse will monitor him throughout the night. If any problems develop overnight, our doctors are on call and available to treat your pet.
Pain Management
Pain management is a crucial aspect of any veterinary surgery, and we go to great lengths to make sure our patients are as comfortable as possible. Our animal hospital has a multitude of pain-killers available for our patients and routinely uses combinations of drugs to ensure a quick and comfortable recovery for your dog or cat. Animals feel pain just like we do and making sure they have the best in pain management after surgery is very important to us.

“Everyone at Germantown Veterinary Clinic are so wonderful! They took great care of my kitten during his surgery, and I can tell he is given lots of love and affection while he is in their care. They are also very flexible with me/are completely understanding when I am late for my appointments due to work.” Samantha, Bethesda
“I’ve been taking my pets here for 20 years & have always been impressed with the care & courtesy of everyone at Germantown Vet. I have one small suggestion, though. I would appreciate it if the technicians would introduce themselves when they take my pet & me to the examination room. Sometimes they will wear name tags but often they do not. Thank you.” Ellen, Germantown
